When Cookie was 10, she learned to play guitar from her sisters, Laurienne & Linda. She starred in her first School talent show in the 5th grade. She continued to perform in plays, orchestra, band & talent shows throughout junior high and into high school. She graduated from high school at 16 and at 17 moved to Alaska with her Alaskan Indian boyfriend & his family to build & manage fishing lodges in the remote bush regions of the Alaskan Wilderness. Out in the bush, she became proficient at bear herding, cooking, bartending, cleaning, fishing & surviving among rustic pioneer conditions. She worked 15-16 hours per day 7 days a week maintaining the lodges in tip-top shape for the colorful guests that came from around the Globe for the World Class Fishing. In her spare time, she would write songs & continue to sing & play the guitar with the employees & sometimes the guests. Before she moved back to the Seattle area, Cookie dabbled in Professional Modeling, Television Acting and started singing with local bands throughout Alaska. Cookie also dedicated a great deal of time & energy assisting Animal Welfare organizations - managing Public Relations, Marketing & Fund Raising. Cookie returned to Seattle in 1989 & appeared in Television Commercials for work & placed an ad in "The Rocket", (Seattle's music magazine) to find a band to perform with. She hooked up with Jim Leslie - guitarist & singer who lived in Arlington. She toured & performed with his band around the World & the Pacific Northwest. In 1992, cookie & Jim's Band won the 1992 Coca-Cola & True Value Hardware's - "Country Showdown" .winning both the local & the State Championship for Songwriting & performing. In addition to working with Jim Leslie in cookie, Cookie has appeared with Jim's band, Chickenhead for the past 6 years. She is now working on a new CD for cookie and is employed as a demo singer for Seattle songwriters. She works on music daily, but also takes time to play with her 5 cats, 2 dogs & horse. She also enjoys photographing the Bald Eagles & other wildlife that visit her rustic 3½ acres on scenic Jim Creek in Arlington, Washington. Cookie remains devoted to helping Animal Welfare Organizations & you can visit her favorite links dedicated to the animals on her links page.
