The Jellyrollers: Musicians: The Jelly Rollers combine compelling rhythms with melt-in-your-mouth guitar licks, tasty harmonica, and rousing harmonies to create their own fresh brand of infectious, hip-shakin' blues. Best known of late for packing the dance floors around the Northwest, the group originally formed as an acoustic duo in the early 90's with Darren Loucas on guitar and Sean Divine on harp singing and playing in the tradition of Terry & McGhee and Cephas & Wiggins. And this new album tastefully blends good old stripped down acoustic tracks (featuring Keith Lowe on upright bass) with sizzly jumpin' offerings which feature the band's regular full rhythm section of Dan Weber on drums and Jim Steffen on bass. A smorgasbord for the blues-lover's palette. "The opening track ("Reuben") of The Jelly Rollers evokes a specific mental image: what you see through the door if you've ever ridden in an open boxcar. This mood pervades the entire album, even when freight trains aren't explicitly mentioned (as they are in "Reno Factory"), and even when the music veers off toward some other sound, as it does with a rock-out rendition of Taj Mahal's "Jelly Roll," laid over a tight shuffle base, or Willie Dixon's "Pretty Thing," which sounds sorta punk-folk here ...this is a very solid album, by a group that unassumingly sets out to get at some of the bedrock notions of the blues, and succeeds." - Genevieve Williams, Washington Bluesletter, August 2001 "THE JELLY ROLLERS is a masterful integration of acoustic and electric blues." Doug Bright, Heritage Music Review, Sept. 2001 "The Jelly Rollers...play Americana the old, good way--the way the horn-pricked devil with his moonshine and dotted lines meant it to go...The Jelly Rollers sing about trains, women, and what it's like to walk down the road feeling bad, and they do it so well and true and simply that it feels sort of timeless."
